Ancient military outposts discovered in Sinai

(AFP) CAIRO: An Egyptian archeological team has discovered three sites believed to be military outposts from the Greek and Roman eras in the Sinai, a senior Egyptian archeologists said
Thursday.
Remains of "shared military and (civilian) residential areas" from the Ptolemaic era (323 to 30 BC) and from early and late in the Roman era (30 BC to 395 AD) respectively were found near Rafah some 350 kilometers (220 miles) east of Cairo, antiquities director for northern Sinai Mohammed Kamal told
AFP.
Discoveries have included the foundations of homes, storehouses, and grain silos, in addition to the remains of a limestone wine press, plus earthenware jars and coins bearing the portrait of a yet-unidentified Roman emperor, Kamal
said.
