Milan "Coliseum" re-opened
July 5th, 2004

MILAN - The Amphitheatre Park and the Alda Levi Museum have been inaugurated today by the vice-major Riccardo De Corato, as an important step in the re-qualification of this city central area. The project, started in 1999, has permitted to make fully available a 11,500 square meters park, close to Via De Amicis.
Only few of the remainings of the amphitheatre are visible today by walking on the tracks opened to the public. The city-major has promised that the surrounding area will be aquired and excavated in order to reveal the whole ancient structure and make the park wider.
The amphitheatre was located outside of the roman city walls, even if today this area is part of the historical medieval city-centre, close to the Ticinensis Port.

The milanese Amphitheatre measures 155x128 meters, and the internal arena is 75x41 meters wide. It was one of the biggest in the whole Western Empire, because Milan was its capital from about 292 d.C. up to 409 d.C.
The Museum called "Antiquarium" has been created into a renovated building and set to host and display important findings found in the surrounding excavations.
