Imperial Gallic G (Worms - Germany)

Robinson considered this helmet the default mid-1st Century for legionaries.  The most famous evidence of this type was found in the Rhine River at Mainz-Weisenau and is now exhibited in Worms in Germany (see pics on the left). Helmets of this style can definitely be dated to the Boudican revolt of 61 a.C. based on fragments found in rubbish pits at Colchester. The carrying handle (used also to fix crests) seen on the Weisenau original may date it slightly later, as none were present with the Colchester fragments.
